Lufthansa and Easyjet are the first to land at BER
Lufthansa and Easyjet will be the first to bring passengers to the new BER airport . The airport company announced on August 28, 2020 that aircraft from the two airlines are to touch down on both runways at the same time on October 31 and dock at the new terminal in Schönefeld.
The first take-offs should be the next day by Easyjet. Unlike the opening date in 2012, there should n’t be a big party with thousands of guests.
After the history of construction defects and canceled opening dates, this was not planned anyway, now the corona crisis is limiting the possibilities.
“It will be a small event,” said airport boss Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, whose company belongs to the states of Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the federal government. “The top of the shareholders, the supervisory board and some other process partners” are expected. The departure from Tegel Airport on November 8th will also be smaller than expected, said Lütke Daldrup.
